Biography

In an award-winning career spanning more than 40 years, Karl Keith has an extensive background in local government and public service.

Appointed Montgomery County Auditor to fill an unexpired term in December 2000, voters since have elected Keith to serve five full terms, most recently in 2018.

Keith has been recognized with state and national awards in the past for developing innovative initiatives to make government more responsive, more transparent and more accessible to the public. He is a past recipient of the CAAO's Outstanding County Auditor award and the Ohio Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Lifetime Achievement Award. Most recently, Keith earned recognition as a "Distinguished County Auditor" for completing more than 100 continuing education hours during his current term as auditor, which is far more than the 24 hours auditors are required to earn under state law. In addition, his office has earned the GFOA's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting, every year for the past 22 years.

Auditor Keith has held numerous leadership positions in the County Auditors Association and he is a past president of the association. He served two terms on the Ashland University Alumni Board of Directors that included a year as president of the Board, and he recently received a Distinguished Service Award from the AU Alumni Board. Additionally, he serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Levitt Pavilion in Dayton.

A Certified Cash Manager, Auditor Keith earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Ashland College and a master's degree in political science from Miami University. He and his wife, Doris, reside in the City of Dayton.
